The artist
Onthephin is an experienced painter whose work is concerned with light, threshold, and the quiet weight of a place.
Biography
Onthephin works from the studio under the name Tanpaintings. She is a highly practised painter — years at the easel show in the patience of her surfaces and the certainty of her colour.
The paintings are built in layers — dark ground first, then a slow arrival of light. She is interested in the moment a landscape almost becomes a figure, or a passage almost becomes a door. The work is contemporary, made with the discipline of long studio practice.
Philosophy
A painting should hold a room without explaining itself. Colour, weight, and silence do the speaking. The collector is invited to live with the work, not to decode it.
Process
Canvases are prepared, stained, and returned to over days. Edges are kept raw where the image needs air. Digital editions are made from a studio file of the finished painting, never from a public website image.

Studio
The studio is kept simple: linen, jars, a large easel, and enough quiet to see when a painting is finished.
