A dark passage opens onto a column of late light. The painting holds the moment before a landscape becomes a way through — umber, charcoal, and a narrow gold that does not hurry.

Threshold was painted as a study of entering. I wanted the dark to feel physical, almost architectural, and the light to feel earned rather than placed. It is a painting to stand in front of, then to live with.
